Overview

IDEA Public Schools, headquartered in Weslaco, Texas is interested in hiring a Human Resources Specialist to assist with facilitating routine work activities of new hire processing for IDEA Public Schools and provide clerical services to Human Resources Manager and Director of Human Resources.  The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and have efficient computer skills.  Previous HR background is preferred but will also consider candidates with general experience.  This is an outstanding opportunity to join a dynamic, rapidly growing organization. Responsibilities

 

  • Facilitate all aspects of new hire process including processing applications, background checks, certification verifications, offer letters, employment agreements, onboarding invitation, and notifications to hiring managers.

  • Serve as liaison to new hires during the onboarding process including communicating consistently with new hire and hiring manager with regard to eligibility to begin work

  • Work cooperatively with Human Assets Department to ensure hiring goal is achieved.

  • Conduct Human Resources Orientations, as needed.

  • Prepare and distribute annual employment agreements and letters of assurance as needed.

  • Update new hire files and follow up with new hires to ensure complete personnel files are received.

  • Process and receive criminal history record information, references, and other application materials.

  • Prepare correspondence, forms, records, and reports as required including the preparation and distribution of new hire status reports on a weekly basis

  • Maintain physical and computerized departmental files related to new hires.

  • Request service records of all new hires and veteran employees as applicable.

  • Prepare service records of former employees, as needed.

  • Prepare personnel documentation for veteran employees as a result of promotion, change in position, and/or new role acceptance.

  • Compile pertinent data as needed when preparing various federal, state, and local reports, including EEOC and Texas Employer New Hire Report.

  • Provide administrative services to Human Resources Manager and Director of Human Resources as needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information.

  • Provide front desk coverage in absence of Receptionist

  • Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

Bachelors Degree Preferred, High School Diploma or GED required

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Efficient computer skills with thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office with an advanced to expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Proficiency skills in keyboarding and file maintenance required

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Basic math skills

  • Ability to develop spreadsheets and databases and perform word processing

  • Ability to perform under immense pressure and manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner required.

  • Ability to interpret and disseminate information to individuals and groups

  • Ability to learn software programs and system processes with ease

  • Possess team oriented and “no excuses” attitude

  • Have strong work ethic with personal drive for success exemplifying “whatever it takes” attitude.

Experience:

  • At least two years experience in human resources or business management operations setting
